This week, we are excited to share a sample of work by Melani Hekimoglu, an artist from Istanbul, Turkey. Melani’s work — vases, sculptures, beaded curtains, planters, and more — is influenced by the materiality of the medium itself. Clay is sensitive. It absorbs every movement and touch. For Melani, the delicate and repetitive nature of manipulating it serves as a meditation, allowing her to make pieces that intuitively reflect her internal state.
About the artist:
Melani Hekimoglu is a Tel Aviv-based artist from Istanbul, Turkey, who recently graduated from the Ceramics and Glass department at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design.
Making art is Melani’s way of reflecting on the sacred creation in all forms. She sees her pieces as ritualistic objects and the audience as part of a ceremony.
Alongside the magazine, Sunday Showcase provides additional opportunities for emerging artists and writers to share their work and gain exposure. There are no themes or deadlines, simply email us your best work for a chance to get featured across all of our channels. We accept writing of any genre and visual art of all mediums.
